On June 9, the health agency restored detailed official information on COVID-19 infections and deaths in Brazil. This, after an order from the Supreme Federal Court (STF) that considered that citizens have the right to know about the health emergency.
Judge Alexandre de Morais determined that the total data of COVID-19 should be included in the daily bulletins. They should not only contain statistics from the last 24 hours.
The judicial decision came after the Brazilian Ministry of Health (MS) stopped reporting the cumulative number of deaths from the disease caused by the new coronavirus on June 5.
A day later, the institution’s website was back on the air, but only with data from June 6. On that occasion, President Jair Bolsonaro referred to a «recount», because the state secretariats would be «falsifying» the numbers of infection and death.
Three parties opposed to the government presented the petition to the Supreme Court. This decision is in addition to another one by the Prosecutor’s Office that requested the interim Health Minister, Eduardo Pazuello, to explain the reasons for the methodology of the change in the counting of the official figures.
Brazil is the third country in the world with the most deaths (36,000) and the second with the most infections (more than 672,000).

El pasado 9 de junio, el organismo sanitario restauró la información oficial detallada sobre los contagios y muertes por COVID- 19 en Brasil. Esto, tras una orden del Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) que consideró que la ciudadanía tiene derecho a conocer lo relacionado a la emergencia sanitaria.
El magistrado Alexandre de Morais determinó que los datos totales de la COVID-19 deben ser incluidos en los boletines diarios. No solo contener estadísticas de las últimas 24 horas.
La decisión judicial llegó luego de que el pasado 5 de junio el Ministerio de Salud de Brasil (MS) dejara de informar sobre el número acumulado de muertos por la enfermedad que provoca el nuevo coronavirus.
Un día después, la página web de la institución volvió al aire, pero solo con datos del 6 de junio. En esa ocasión, el presidente Jair Bolsonaro se refirió a un “recuento”, debido que las secretarías del Estado estarían “falsificando” los números de contagio y muerte.
Tres partidos de oposición al oficialismo presentaron la petición al Tribunal Supremo. Esta decisión se suma a otra de la Fiscalía que solicitó al ministro interino de Salud, Eduardo Pazuello, que explique las razones de la metodología de cambio en el conteo de las cifras oficiales.
Brasil es el tercer país del mundo con más fallecimientos (36.000) y el segundo con más contagios (más de 672.000).
